Missed-call text-back
An add-on for businesses that can't always get to the phone. When a call goes unanswered, the caller gets a text from your business, so the conversation keeps going instead of going to a competitor.
How it works
- A call to your business isn't answered.Your existing number forwards unanswered calls to your text-back line. Customers keep calling the number they already know.
- The caller hears a short notice.A recording tells them you'll text them at that number, and how to opt out.
- A few moments later, they get a text from your business. It's only about their call. It says who it's from and how to opt out.
- The conversation keeps going. They reply with what they need, and you answer when you're free, or the AI receptionist answers for you.
Example: a caller's phone
Missed call to Smith Plumbing, 2:14 PM
Smith Plumbing: Sorry we missed your call! What can we help you with? Reply here and we'll get back to you soon. Reply STOP to opt out.
Water heater is leaking from the bottom. Can someone come today?
Smith Plumbing: We can be there between 3 and 5 today. What's the address?
What the caller hears
Every caller hears this before any text is sent, with your business's name in it:
Recorded notice
“Thanks for calling [Business name]. Sorry we missed your call. We'll send you a text at this number in a moment so we can help. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP anytime to opt out.”
Two ways to reply
Pick what fits how your business runs. Either way, the first text goes out a few moments after the missed call.
Standard reply
One message you write once, sent every time a call is missed. You handle the replies yourself from there.
AI receptionist
Answers the caller's follow-up questions by text in real time, then sends you a summary once the conversation wraps up.
We handle the paperwork
A business texting number has to be registered with the phone carriers before it can send a single text. We do that registration in your business's name, and we add the privacy policy and texting terms the carriers ask for to your website.
The rules every text follows
- Texts only go to people who just called you
- No marketing or promotions, only replies about their call
- The first text names your business and says how to opt out
- Replying STOP ends the texts right away
- Replying HELP gets your contact information
Questions
- Do I need a new phone number?
- No. Your current number forwards the calls you don't answer. Texts come from a registered texting number set up for your business.
- Do I need a website from you to get this?
- No, but it works best with one. The carriers want a public website with a privacy policy and texting terms on it, and we put those on the sites we build.
- Where can I read the exact terms?
- Our SMS Terms, Privacy Policy and how callers agree to texts.
